The impeachment of the Governor follows the submission of the report of the special panel led by Justice S A Omonua which probed the allegations against the governor.
NPO Reports that part of the petition against the Deputy Governor had included disclosure of government classified documents and perjury.
While the Omonua panel said it could not find Shaibu guilty of the perjury allegation, it concluded that of disclosure of government documents was established against him.
At the sitting of the House on Monday, 18 out of the 20 members present voted in favour of the impeachment while one voted against. Monday’s impeachment was the climax of series of political crisis in the state especially between the Deputy Governor and Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu, against the wish of Obaseki, went ahead to contest for the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party for the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
