Lagos State lawmaker, Desmond Elliot, has lost his re-election bid, as Barakat Bakare-Odunuga secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 Lagos House of Assembly Election.
Bakare-Odunuga, in a landslide victory defeated Elliot, the incumbent lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency 1, at the APC Primary Election held on Wednesday.
The former aide to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, reportedly won the poll with a total of 11,385 votes as against Elliot’s 270 votes.
Prior to the declaration of the winner, the return officer of the election read the result of each ward which were all won by Barakat-Odunuga.
“In Ward Yaba/Ojuelegba, Honourable Desmond received a total of three votes while Honourable Barakat Bakare received a total of 980 votes.
“For Igbaja/ Stadium, the total votes received by Honourable Desmond is nil while Honourable Barakat received a total of 523 votes.
“Adeniran Ogunsanya Ward, Honourable Desmond received a total of 10 votes while honourable Barakat Received a total of 1,986 votes.
“In Shitta/Ogunlana Ward, Honourable Desmond received a total of 169 votes while Honourable Barakat received a total of 3,900 votes.
“For Iponri/Eric Moore, Honourable Desmond recieved a total of six votes while Honourable Barakat received a total of 1,805 votes, bringing the total for the entire local government and all the wards, Honourable Desmond Elliot received a total of 270 votes while Honourable Barakat Bakare received a total of 11,385 votes.” The election officer read after which he declared Bakare-Odunuga winner of the poll.
