The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Sunday said Nigerians now have a window of another 10 days within which to deposit their old Naira notes.
Godwin Emefiele, CBN Governor, made the announcement while speaking to journalists Sunday morning after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari I
in Daura, Katsina state.
He said President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the extension.
The new deadline is now 10 February instead of the former 31 January deadline, he said.
Mr Emefiele said Nigerians, who are yet to change their naira notes from the old to new ones, now have an opportunity to do so.
He said people must utilize the opportunity because the deadline will not be extended again.
The CBN Governor had at the weekend said he had bad news for those wishing for an extension of the swap of old notes for new ones.
NPO Reported that the apex bank boss had said that the time frame given for Nigerians to exchange their old notes for new ones was enough for any legitimate transactions.
