The world of literature has lost one of its own on Wednesday as Kenyan popular novelist, playwright and essayist Ngugi Wa Thiong’o has died.
His son, a professor at the University of Cornel announced the passing of the African literary giant.
“It tears my heart to say that my father, Ngugi Wa Thiong’o passed away earlier today. I am me because of him in so many ways, as his child, scholar and writer. I love him – I am not sure what tomorrow will bring without him here. I think that is all I have to say for now,” he wrote on his X handle Wednesday.
He was the author of popular books such as Weep Not Child, Petals of Blood, the River Between, A Grain of Wheat, Devils on the Cross, Trials of Dedan Kemati, Matigari, Decolonising the Mind, and many others.
