The Nigeria Labour Congress on Friday gave a November 8 deadline for the Federal Government to meet its demands over the Wednesday attacks on its President, Joe Ajaero or risk a nationwide shutdown.
This was as the congress demanded the prosecution of the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, Mohammed Barde and the Special Adviser to Governor Hope Uzodima on Special Duties, Nwaneri Chinasa for the roles they allegedly played in the attacks on its president, Mr. Joe Ajaero.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Friday, Deputy President of the congress, Adeyanju Adewale, gave details of the attacks that were visited on the President of the NLC, saying that Ajaero was stripped of his human dignity.
The Deputy President of the NLC narrated the alleged precarious state Ajaero was at the time he was rescued from his abductors.
Specifically, the NLC, according to Adeyanju, said the commissioner of Police Ahmed, the governor’s aide, and the Area Command of the police who allegedly took orders from the Commissioner should all be prosecuted for their roles.
He said apart from Ajaero who was brutally injured with his eyes swollen, he said other NLC leaders and journalists were attacked for attempting to stop the abduction of Ajaero and reporting the incident.
“We are worried it has become criminal for workers to gather,” he said
NPO Reports that the NLC President came under attacks on Wednesday when he arrived at the state capital to mobilise for a protests against the government over some labour disputes.
The police, which was initially accused of attacking Ajaero, had said that its men only rescued him from those who mobbed him and declined to join the protests.
