The Rivers State House of Assembly Friday morning vowed to proceed with their plan to impeach the governor.
At an emergency press conference held by the lawmakers Friday morning, the lawmakers, who said so many very important persons have called on them to halt the impeachment process noting that t”he governor and the deputy governor are adamant.”
Four of the lawmakers who had earlier appealed to their colleagues to shelve the impeachment process separately addressed the press saying they have made a u-turn saying the impeachment process should continue.
The lawmakers said both the governor and his deputy have carried on as if the House of Assembly does not exist.
They also accused Fubara of mastering the arts of manipulation adding that the governor has employed those they called his “media boys” to attack the members of the House of Assembly.
Saying there is nothing ethnic about the proceedings against the governor, the lawmakers said members of the House who are Ijaw just as the governor are all in support of the impeachment proceedings.
After the lawmakers took turns to address journalists to confirm their respective backing of the process against the governor, the lawmakers proceeded for their official legislative sitting.
The Speaker, Martin Amaewhule called for voting over the motion for continuation of the impeachment process.
After a unanimous voting supporting the impeachment of the governor and his Deputy, the House resolved to direct the State’s Chief Judge to constitute a seven man committee that will commence investigations of the allegations of impeachable offences against the governor and his deputy.
The House later adjourned to Tuesday January 27 to reconvene.
Friday morning’s proceedings is a continuation of the war between Fubara and his estranged godfather, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike.
