Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi, has resigned from his position as the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum.
His letter of resignation addressed to the secretary of the forum came less than an hour after he was suspended on the floor of the senate on Tuesday.
He was suspended after his failure to defend his allegation that the 2024 budget had been padded to the tune of N3trn.
The motion for his suspension had been put to voice vote by the senate president, Godswill Akpabio, after members debated the matter amidst a rowdy session on Tuesday.
While some members called for Ningi’s suspension, others said a mere apology would do.
In his letter of resignation, Ningi said his action became necessary in view of the development at the senate on Tuesday and the nation entirely.
