The Supreme Court on Friday affirmed that the Governor of Kano state, Abba Kabir Yussuf is the validly elected Governor of the state. The pronouncement by the apex court put paid to months of push over who is the authentic governor of the North-West state of Nigeria.
The court dismissed the petition of the All Progressive Congress candidate, Nasir Gawuna who had earlier been granted victory by the Appeal tribunal in November.
The court restored to Yussuf, 165,616 votes earlier deducted from his votes by the lower tribunal which the apex court, though agreed was based on Electoral Act, did not have to be removed from his votes. The apex also queried the investigation of the membership of Yussuf of his party, the NNPP saying it is out of the work of the court to do so. More details, later….
