President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the passing of Prof. Mosobalaje Oyawoye, Nigeria’s first Professor of Geology.
Buhari in a condolence message by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, on Monday in Abuja, described the deceased as a prolific scholar and thinker who stood for national aspiration and progress.
“He was steadfastly committed to the progress of the nation,” he said.
While sympathizing with his family and kinsmen in Offa, Kwara, President Buhari expressed sadness that the nation had, of late, “been losing elder statesmen and indeed great men who have accomplished so much and impacted hugely on the lives of many Nigerians.
”Almighty Allah knows best. May they rest in peace.
“My thoughts are with the family of the deceased, his friends and the countless admirers he left behind in this hour of grief.
”The nation will miss him immensely. May his soul rest in peace,” he concluded.
