The leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria is set to present its proposal to other leading presidential candidates ahead of the 2023 elections.
CAN leadership led by its President, Arch-Bishop Daniel Okoh, met with the candidate of the All Progressive Congress at the National Christian Centre, Abuja on Wednesday, presenting him the association’s proposal for Nigeria post-2023.
Information exclusively obtained by the NPO Reports showed that the meeting with Tinubu on Wednesday was part of a series of meetings already lined up by CAN to engage presidential candidates to draw them out on their plans for Nigeria in general and the Christians in particular.
NPO Reports gathered that the next presidential candidate to appear before the leadership of CAN is Mr. Peter Obi, who is flying the flag of the Labour Party.
Mr. Obi enjoys some wide followings among Christians. His appearances at some church events had drawn loud ovations showing high approval ratings.
Obi, according to NPO Reports findings, is to appear on Tuesday November 22 at the same venue.
It was not clear yet when the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, that of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, Musa Kwankwaso, and others will come up before the association.
“Obi is next in line and we are having him here on Tuesday,” our source at the CAN stated Thursday morning.
During its meeting with Tinubu on Wednesday, CAN presented him its proposal just as the Chairman of CAN, in his speech, said Nigeria was inching towards being a failed state.
He however said that the country’s case was not irredeemable.
He had told Tinubu, “We are worried that disorientation in public leadership makes this a self-fulfilling prophesy. “But we are reassured by the words of the scripture that whenever a people recognize their errors and make amend, God of justice will show them mercy and the land will be healed. Nigeria is not a lost case. Nigeria has hope. Nigeria has a great future. But that hope and future rest on resolving the constitutional incoherence that has determined our bloody past and our miserable present. It threatens to deny us the future. But if we agree to create a new constitutional order on the basis of equality, justice, and self-determination, if we determine to create a new social compact between Nigerians of different religious, ethnic, and social groups, we will recover the promise of a great, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria.”
At Wednesday’s meeting with Tinubu, the APC candidate had assured the Christian community of his status above religion sentiments and biases.
Tinubu had told CAN leaders that if he had not been able to anything about his wife, who is an Assistant Pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and his children who are Christians, it would be impossible for him to deal with the Nigerian issues based on religion.

Tinubu had come under heavy condemnations especially from the Christian community in Nigeria after his choice of the former Governor of Borno State Kashim Shetimma as his running mate.
Sheitimma is a Muslim just as Tinubu.
CAN had led part of the campaigns against him while many vowed to vote against the ticket.
Tinubu told CAN leaders that the welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of their religious inclinations is his focus.
