Chelsea football club has, yesterday, sealed European football spot as they qualifed for the UEFA Europa Conference League despite 2-1 away loss to Swiss side, Servette.
Despite last season’s poor performance in the English Premier League which saw them finished outside top four, the London club grabbed European football ticket as they qualified for the Conference League with 3-2 aggregate win against Servette.
Having secured 2-0 victory in the first-leg at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea travelled to Servette to seal their chance of European football.
The game started on a brighter note for Enzo Maresca’s led side with Christopher Nkuku putting the Blues on 1-0 lead from the spot following a foul on Mykhalo Mudryk in the penalty area.
English forward, Noni Madueke came close to doubling Chelsea’s lead, but his attempt on goal was kept out by Servette’s goalkeeper.
The home side would, eventually, brought the game to 1-1 before halftime with Guillemenot’s goal.
Chelsea continued with their dominance in the second half but failed to capitalize on their chances.
Servette would punish their wastefulness in the 72nd minutes as second-half sub, Crivelli, put them on a 2-1 lead.
Senegalese forward, Nicholas Jackson found the back of the net to bring the game on levels term, but his goal was ruled offside.
The game ended with 2-1 win for Servette but was not enough to push the through as Chelsea advanced with 3-2 aggregate win.
