As Senate Screens Ex-CDS for Ministerial Role
- Safiu Kehinde
The immediate past Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa (Rtd), has pledged to unify the armed forces in their fight against terrorism across Nigeria.
Musa made the pledge at his ongoing screening by the Senate for the approval of his appointment as the new Minister of Defence.
Speaking before the lawmakers during their plenary session on Wednesday, Musa harped on the need to foster unity and oneness within the armed forces and other security forces.
He also called on all Nigerians to shelve their ethical and religious differences by putting hands together to defeat the terrorists.
“We first must love one another, understand that we are in this together, and believe that the challenges we are facing is a Nigerian challenge. Not only for the Armed Forces or for the security forces but for everyone working together.
“I want to assure you that we are going to work united as we did when I was the Chief of Defence Staff.
“The important thing is for us to take the ownership of the challenges confronting our dear nation. These are thing that we can defeat.
“We can win this war until we deliberate about it, until when we are determined, knowing that we are brothers and sisters and God has a purpose putting us here together.
“It’s not to destroy ourselves but to build ourselves up. And that’s for me, the most important aspect that all Nigerians must put hands together to defeat the enemy.” He said.
The ex-CDS further called for a tightened security around the country’s border, warning that the Sahel is currently heating up.
The Sahel is heating up and you can see what they are doing to Mali. We will not want such situation to come to Nigeria. That is why our borders must be secured, our security forces must be empowered and supported.”He added.
NPO Reported that President Bola Tinubu had on Tuesday announced Musa as the new Minister of Defence following the resignation of Mohammed Badaru.
