An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court has on Friday ordered the remand of a 25-year-old tailor, Sodiq Yekini, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, pending legal advice over charges of defilement brought against him.
Yekini was charged with having unlawful intercourse with his neighbour’s daughter.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Omolara Kushanu, declined to take the defendant’s plea.
She, consequently, directed that he be kept in custody until March 15, to await advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
Yekini, who resides at 113 Idowu St, in Olodi-Apapa, Lagos, was charged with sexual assault.
The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, alleged that he committed the offence on December 27, 2025, at his residence.
According to Ademigbuji, the victim, a 17-year-old girl, was discovered by her parents, after they found her footwear at the defendant’s door while searching for her.
He alleged that the girl later confessed that the defendant had been having carnal knowledge of her since 2025.
The prosecutor said that the matter was consequently, reported to the police.
The offence contravenes the provisions of section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
