Subscribers have been told that the many hours of disruptions in the service of the MTN was caused by damaged undersea fibres which services the network.
NPO Reports frustrations by network subscribers who have been cut off service since Thursday morning with millions unable to use internet on different platforms.
The service disruption is said to have also affected banks who are unable to make some services available to customers.
“We apologise for the challenges you may be experiencing with the internet speed and accessing data service at the moment.
“This as a result of a damage to international undersea cables across East and West Africa.
“The repair process is ongoing to resolve the situation as soon as possible. Please, look out for further updates.,” MTN said in a terse statement put out to its customers.
It is the second time in about two weeks that MTN service would be down leaving millions of subscribers stranded.
