Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has been granted a permission to take over the prosecution of suspects in the case of the death of a student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Timothy Adegoke.
In a letter signed by the State Commissioner for Justice Femi Akande, Falana can now take over the prosecution of seven defendants arraigned in connection with the death of Adegoke.
Adegoke, had lodged in the Hilton Hotels owned by Ramon Adedoyin after which he was suspected to have been killed by some people in the hotel.
His remains were found by police detectives in a shallow grave in the forest not far away from the hote.
Adedoyin’s son, Raheem, who is now at large, was said to have supervised the burial of the deceased.
The other six staff of the hotel who are currently being held over the death of Adegoke are Adedeji Adesola, Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi AdFaerogba, Oluwale Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, and Adebayo Kunle.
They are being arraigned on 11 counts bordering on conspiracy, murder, altering of receipt and administration of extrajudicial oath.
The case had earlier been transferred to Abuja but later brought back to Osun on the demand of Falana who argued that it must be tried in the state where the alleged offence was committed.
Akande’s letter was titled, ‘Re: Justice for Timothy, Mr. Governor over to you : Osun State Government Position On State Of Prosecution In Hos/ 5c /2022 The State Vs. Dr. Rahmon Adedoyin & Ors.’
