Malam Auwal, the father of Umar Auwal, one of the prime suspects arrested in connection to the murder of a housewife and her six children, has demanded immediate execution of his son.
NPO Reported that Umar and two of his accomplices were arrested by the Kano State Police Command over the alleged murder of the seven family members who would later be confirmed to be relatives of the prime suspect.
The 35-year-old Fatima Abubakar was hacked to death alongside her six children who were idnetified as Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam, aged one and a half.
Their murder which occurred in Dorayi Gidan Kwari had sparked public outrage with demand for the prosecution of the suspects.
The police confirmed that the suspect allegedly confessed to the killings.
Speaking during a radio interview in Kano, Malam Auwal publicly distanced himself from his son, describing him as a threat to society.
He insisted that Umar should face the maximum punishment for the murder of Fatima, who was reported to be the prime suspect’s younger sister, and her children.
According to reports, the suspect’s father held that he no longer considered Umar as his son as he alleged that he had previously killed another family member several years ago.
Malam Auwal urged the authorities not to delay justice or spend public funds keeping him in custody.
He commended the police for their swift response and handling of the case, noting that neither he nor Umar’s mother would attend court proceedings during the trial.
Meanwhile, the police also accused the suspect of involvement in a separate attack in the Tudun Yola area of Kano, where two housewives were reportedly killed and their residence set ablaze.
