Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have nabbed a suspected notorious gunrunner, Kelvin Ebikeniye Dugo, in Cross River state.
Dugo was reportedly arrested at Odukpani Local Government Area of the state with 832 rounds of live ammunition and two empty AK-47 magazine recovered from him.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the department, the suspect’s arrest followed credible intelligence on his plan to procure the consignment from a supplier in Benue State.
Dugo was intercepted moments after receiving the consignment, which was cleverly concealed in food items.
The ammunition and magazines, as seen in a picture attached to the post, were concealed in a big tomato paste sack and carton of blender.
The DSS says the operation underscores its intensified nationwide crackdown on gunrunning and illegal arms proliferation.
