Former Minister of Power, Dr. Olu Agunloye, has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, has no right to declare anyone wanted.
Agunloye, in a telephone conversation with the NPO Reports shortly after being declared wanted by the commission, said the commission will pay for this action adding that his lawyers “are on top of this fresh declaration.”
NPO Reported earlier that EFCC had declared Agunloye wanted over alleged corruption and forgery. But in a quick response on Wednesday, Agunloye said, “The EFCC has no right to declare anybody wanted without a court order.
“We are in court with them already and the case was adjourned to February 1, 2024 and now in between that, they said they are declaring me wanted.” Agunloye said the commission has been looking for one thing or the other to link him with corruption adding that the last time, they called the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
“Agunloye was a former Corps Marshal of the road safety agency. Demanding reason for declaring him and accusing the EFCC of playing to the gallery, he said “they have my house address.” Saying that his lawyers have written a fresh letter to the commission demanding a public apology, Agunloye said a number of other interested parties are rising against the EFCC over his matter adding that “the lawyers will deal with this matter.”
Responding to the claim that the commission has no right to declare anyone wanted without a court order, EFCC spokesman, Oyewale insisted that the commission has full rights saying “if he is around, then, he should turn himself in.”
