Gombe lawmaker, Sen. Danjuma Goje, has made clarification over his alleged clash with the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, stressing that he had nothing personal against him.
Goje had in a viral video captured during the red chamber’s plenary session on Tuesday called out Akpabio for holding a private meeting with a group of Senators amid the ongoing plenary.
The lawmaker representing Gombe Central Senatorial District had accused the Senate President’s of unparliamentary conduct while rejecting Akpabio’s offer to join the meeting.
In the wake of the incident, several media outlet and social media platforms had reported the clash between the two lawmakers.
Reacting to the development at Wednesday’s plenary session, Goje faulted the reports of the said clash between him and Akpabio.
He clarified that his intention was only to ensure that the Senate follows the rules.
“Mr. President, I want to talk on what transpired yesterday. and the way the section of the social media misinterpreted what happened yesterday.
“My intention of call that order was not to go against the Senate President personally or to fight him in a manner that was reported yesterday.
“The idea was to contribute my quota as an experienced parliamentarian to ensure that the Senate follows the rules.
“There was nothing personal against the Senate President or against any Senator.” Goje said.
The Gombe lawmaker urged the media to report based on facts and desist from false projection of events within the red chamber as he reiterated that there was no drama at the Senate.
“I want the social media to please take note because the way it was projected yesterday was that some people said Goje challenged the Senate President or there was a drama. There was no drama.
“There was nothing like that. I only raised a normal point of order based on our rules and the Senate President gave me the chance based on our rules and everything was sorted out.
“There is no controversy and there is no fight. Please the social media and members of the Press I want to call on you report what take place in this Senate correctly.” He added.
