The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has summoned billionaire businessman Chief Razaq Okoya’s sons, Wahab and Raheem Okoya, for questioning over naira abuse.
NPO reports that this is following a promotional video for Raheem’s new song titled ‘Credit Alert’ which went viral on social media
In the video, the duo were seen spraying Naira notes as they danced while the mobile police held bundle of cash.
The brothers are expected to appear at the EFCC Lagos office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, by 10 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2025, for questioning.
Although, Raheem had issued a public apology via X, saying he didn’t intend to cause harm.
“To the Nigerian people, my actions were not intended to cause any trouble or harm.
“My intentions were pure and naive… I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”
NPO also reports that the action drew widespread criticisms particularly after the police confirmed that the officer seen in the video had been identified and detained.
The Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that the officer’s actions were unethical and that he would face disciplinary measures as part of the police’s efforts to uphold professionalism and integrity.
In the invitation signed by Michael Wetkas, Acting Director of its Lagos Directorate, EFCC said it was part of its commitment to enforcing Section 21(3) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act, 2007, which prohibits the abuse of the national currency.
The act, perceived by many as disregard for the law, drew condemnation on social media, with some Nigerians expressing doubts about accountability due to their father’s influential status.
