Three days after disappearing, the X (formerly Twitter) account of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has remained unavailable.
There are reports of the account being hacked on Tuesday after some internet fraudsters threatened to unleash cyberwar on the anti-graft agency.
It could not be confirmed if hackers broke into the account or the account has suffered a technical glitch as claimed by the spokesman of the commission, Mr. Dele Oyewale while responding to a media inquiry from The Peoples Gazette.
As at 10am Thursday when the NPO Reports checked it again, the situation has remained the same
“This account doesn’t exist” is the message being displayed by the account which had pver 2 million followers.
EFCC is known to have intensified its crackdown internet fraudsters in recent times with many of them currently serving jail terms.
Two months ago, a protest was staged in Akure, the Ondo state capital where friends of some alleged fraudsters marched through the city calling for the scrapping of the agency.
An inquiry sent to Oyewale Thursday morning was yet to be responded to at the tome of filing this report.
Through its social media accounts, especially, X, the commission has communicated with its Publics on the works being done.
