The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, has come under severe condemnations after he advertised his meeting with security heads in the state with the killings of two monarchs in the state on Monday.
Oyebanji, had come online via his X handle to update his followers on the security meeting he had with heads of security agencies to improve the security in the state.
“Earlier today, I chaired the state security council meeting in Ado-Ekiti, where we extensively discussed security issues and reviewed measures taken to promote peace and enhance intelligence gathering across communities in our state.
“The peace of our land is non-negotiable, and we remain committed to supporting all security agencies in strengthening intelligence gathering, improving institutional capacity, and utilising technology to detect and disrupt threats to peace and security in Ekiti State,” the Governor had posted on his handle.
However, the post did not appear to sit well with some social media users who immediately condemned him for exposing his security meeting in spite of the spate of insecurity in the state.
While two traditional rulers were killed on Monday, pupils of a school were said to have been attacked and kidnapped on Monday after their school bus was attacked.
One of the responders, Manong12 with the handle @manon9jag had responded by saying that the governor did not need what he called the PR (public relations) on his security meetings.
He advised the governor to let the works of his security advertise themselves rather than he coming online to give details of security meetings.
He had said, “Mr Governor your Excellency; this is not time for PR, quit this PR and let your result do the PR, as far as I am concern, your meeting today was a waste of time cause two Obas were killed just this evening in Ekiti while another Oba was kidnapped at the same time. SECURE EKITI !!”
Another user, Obinrin Akanse with the handle @blockofbuilder, said “Were the 3 monarchs ambushed not coming from this event before two were killed? And they took the body of monarchs with them? 4000 farmer’s reportedly killed in Ekiti till date, and we are still talking? Until they breaks into the house of the executives then it will be real abi?”
Another user told the Governor that he cannot see any “decisive action” in the meeting held with the spate of kidnapping in the state.
Akin-Olusola Toyin, with the X handle, @akinlabisamuel1 said “Thank you Mr Governor but I can’t see a decisive action on what happened that called for this security meeting.I was expecting something like”I gave all the security agencies 5days ultimatum to fish out the criminals in their hideout” May God help us sir.peace be with us Ekiti.”
