Bello El-Rufai, son of a former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
El-Rufai’s defection was announced by the Speaker, Rep. Abbas Tajudeen, during plenary on Thursday.
The lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency joined the ADC, alongside two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers from Kaduna State — Reps. Umar Ajilo and Suleiman Richifa.
Meanwhile, Tajudeen also announced the defection of Kamilu Ado, a lawmaker from Kano State, from ADC to Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The speaker equally announced the resignation of Rep. Joshua Obika, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency of the Federal Capital Territory, from APC to NDC.
According to reports that all the affected members cited internal crises and uncertainty within their former parties as reasons for their defections.
Recall that Nasir El-Rufai had last year dumped the APC to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before collaborating with the coalition of opposition leaders to adopt the ADC.
Prior to his parting with the APC, the former Kaduna governor had made himself a staunch critic of the President Bola Tinubu-led administration and the ruling party which he was a founding member.
His son however maintained his membership with the APC despite his father’s switch from the party until the announcement of his defection on Thursday.
