Renowned Jigawa State monarch, the Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, has died in Cairo, Egypt.
Ahmed reportedly passed away on Thursday in the Egypt’s capital city.
The monarch’s death was announced in a statement issued by the former Minister of Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
According to Pantami, Ahmed reigned as the Emir of Gumel Emirate, one of the oldest and most respected traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria, from December 16, 1980 until his death.
The emirate was founded in the 18th century with a rich history of scholarship, governance, and service to humanity.
While expressing sadness over the demise of the Emir, Pantami extended his condolences to the immediate family of the late monarch and the people of Jigawa state, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III.
The former minister described the late monarch as a distinguished scholar who dedicated his life to the service of people and promotion of peace amongst others.
‘On behalf of myself and my family, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late Emir, the Gumel Emirate Council, His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, CFR, the Government and good people of Jigawa State, and the entire nation.
‘The late Emir was a distinguished scholar, a beacon of wisdom, and a father to all. He dedicated his life to the service of his people, the promotion of peace, education, and the preservation of our cultural values. His leadership, humility, and commitment to community development will be greatly missed.’ Pantami wrote.
He prayed for the repose of the late monarch’s soul strength for the people of Jigawa to bear the loss.
‘We pray that Allah SWT forgives his sins, accepts his good deeds, and grants him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
‘May Allah also grant the family, the Emirate, and the people of Jigawa the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
‘May Allah admit him into Jannatul Firdaus together with our departed parents and loved ones.’ The ex-minister added.
