The new governor of Osun, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is to be sworn in today at a ceremony at the state capital, Osogbo.
Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party had defeated incumbent Governor Gboyega of the All Progressive Congress in the election that held on July 16.
Adeleke of the PDP won 17 of the 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the governorship election.
Incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), however, won in the remaining 13 LGAs.
While Adeleke garnered 403,371 votes in the overall results from LGAs, Oyetola who ran on the platform of polled 375, 027 votes, INEC’s chief returning officer, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, declared.
Oyetola is still challenging the victory of the PDP at the election tribunal till his last day in office on Friday.
It was the second time Adeleke was contesting for the seat having been the candidate of the PDP in the 2018 governorship poll.
Oyetola had been declared the winner at the time with Oyetola polling a total of 255,505 as against Adeleke’s cumulative 255,023 votes.
Expected to grace today’s inauguration are leaders of the PDP. It was not clear if the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar would be in attendance.

According to Olawale Rasheed, spokesman of the new governor, presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, National Chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu, and some governors are expected to grace the event.
