The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has increased it registration points for its Go Cashless initiative with additional personnel deployed at both the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to fast-track issuance of cards.
This was made known in a statement issued on Sunday on FAAN’s official X handle.
While declaring the commencement of the registration for the Go Cashless card, the authority disclosed that the exercise has led to heavy congestion of the MMIA and NAIA access gates.
This, according to the statement prompted the introduction of the initiatives to ease the situation.
“We acknowledge the traffic build-up experienced at the access gates today. Despite the wide publicity, notices, and repeated announcements issued ahead of the commencement date, a significant number of motorists opted to register for their Go Cashless cards at the gates this morning.
“This understandably created pressure on the toll lanes and resulted in temporary gridlock.
“While some initial adjustment challenges were anticipated, as with any major system transition, the Authority had provided ample notice to encourage early registration and avoid congestion on day one.” The statement partly read.
Coupled with the deployment of additional personnel to the access gates and increased registration points to fast-track first-time card issuance, FAAN also noted that on-ground coordination has been enhanced to improve traffic flow.
It urged the cashless card applicants to exercise patience, understanding, and cooperation as effort is ongoing to stabilise and streamline the process.
FAAN noted that the transition is designed to deliver long-term benefits — faster processing, improved transparency, reduced cash handling risks, and a more efficient airport environment for all.
It further urged all motorists who yet to obtain the card to take advantage of the expanded registration support being provided and to plan ahead for subsequent visits.
