Is the Assembly quarters not part of my property? Is there anything wrong in going to check how things are going on there
There is an air of uncertainty over the fate of the River State House of Assembly residential quarters on Thursday as Governor Sim Fubara visited .
While the Governor claimed his visit was to ascertain the state of the structures in the quarters for possible rehabilitation, there are fears that the Governor may have tactfully initiated a renovation project to forestall activities of members of the House who are opposed to him.
There is an ongoing political battle in the state.
The battle has pitted Fubara with his predecessor Nyesom Wike.
Wike who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has been locked in a battle for the control of the state months after Fubara’s assumption of power.
The suspicion that the governor’s visit might be a precursor to something sinister emerged from the demolition of the House of Assembly complex last year as part of the ongoing crisis in the state.
According a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara, who spoke after the inspection stated that the assembly quarters is part of state government properties, adding that the facility needs to be taken good care of.
The Governor said: “Is the Assembly quarters not part of my property? Is there anything wrong in going to check how things are going on there? You are aware of the developments. We have a new speaker, and I went there to see for my myself how things are. There might be a few things I might want to do there for the good of our people.”
