The Presidency has taunted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar over the defection of the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
NPO Reported that Fintiri had on Friday announced his defection to the APC alongside the entire political structure of the state.
In what he labelled a huge blow for Atiku, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, held that Fintiri’s defection should be another reason for the former Vice President to consider retirement from active politics.
Onanuga, in a statement issued on his X handle in reaction to the development, held that the defection which saw President Bola Tinubu take away Atiku’s home base has rendered the APC a juggernaut in the state.
The presidential spokesperson held that with Atiku’s new party, the African Development Congress (ADC), largely unknown in Adamawa, Fintiri’s defection serve as a huge blow for the formeer Vice President’s ambition.
“With the presidential election less than a year away, Fintiri’s defection is surely a big blow to veteran presidential runner Atiku Abubakar.
“His ADC is largely unknown in the state. He certainly needs to reassess his ambition, as his governor has turned the APC into an Adamawa juggernaut.” He said.
Onanuga maintained that Atiku no longer has business selling his candidacy after losing his popularity at home.
He charged him to consider retirement and go back to Dubai.
“If a politician is not so popular at home, he has no business selling his candidacy to outsiders. The time is nigh for Atiku to consider retiring from politics and going to his second home in Dubai.” He added.
