The Lahti District Court has on Tuesday freed self-acclaimed Biafran Prime Minister, Simon Ekpa, from detention.
Recall that the Finnish government had in November 2024 announced the arrest of Ekpa, alongside four others, over alleged terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.
Ekpa was accused of allegedly using social media to promote violence in the South-East region, targeting civilians and authorities.
Amid speculations of possible extradition to Nigeria, the leader of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) appeared before the court on Tuesday.
Having allegedly denied involvement in Biafran movement in previous hearing, Ekpa was, according to a post shared on X, released by the court with his excited supporters receiving him at the end of the hearing on Tuesday.
While the details of the hearing still remains undisclosed as at the time of filing this report, the BRIGE’s could be seen in the video exchanging pleasantries and embrace with his supporters at the court premises.
