At least five people have rescued from the ghastly multiple crash which occurred along the Otedola Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The victims were rescued in a joint ongoing operation carried out by officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the Lagos State Police Command, and other first responders.
The rescue mission was confirmed in an update shared on X on Wednesday by the Lagos Police Command around 4:26pm.
Videos attached to the post showed officials scaling the mangled vehicles to rescue one of the trapped victims.
The police also confirmed that no fatality has been recorded as at the time of the post with effort ongoing to reopen the road for motorists.
‘Five individuals have so far been successfully rescued, no fatality has been recorded as of this time, while the evacuation of the vehicles involved is ongoing.
‘Efforts are also ongoing to re-open the road to motorists.’ The post read.
The command urged motorists to exercise patience, cooperate with emergency responders and exercise caution while using the route.
This would imply another round of lengthy delay for commuters who are largely still recovering from the heavy gridlock experienced along same axis on Tuesday.
The latest incident involves over five vehicles and had since attracted the presence of the Lagos Police Commissioner, Tijani Fatai, who was seen alongside other personnel accessing the situation.
Latest update shared on the police X handle as at 5:52pm confirmed that the road has been cleared and reopened for motorists.
Video attached to the post showed the free road with all vehicles affected in the crash evacuated.
