The World Health Organisation (WHO) has disclosed that no fewer than 29 people were killed, 129 others injured, while four persons remain missing after flash floods swept through parts of eastern, southeastern and central Afghanistan.
According to the organisation, the floods affected the provinces of Nuristan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Paktika, Paktia, Khost, Ghazni, Kabul, Kapisa, Panjshir, Parwan, Logar and Maidan Wardak, leaving casualties and causing widespread destruction of homes and property.
WHO said at least 300 families were affected in Nuristan and Laghman alone.
The organisation added that, in collaboration with its health partners, it has deployed three mobile health teams to the affected communities to provide medical care and other essential health services to flood victims.
