President Bola Tinubu has expressed his satisfaction with the gradual reduction in food inflation in the country.
The President attributed the development to the collective hard work by members of his cabinet, state governors, and other political leaders.
Tinubu stated this on Monday night while hosting governors, members of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), Service Chiefs, and some selected Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to break the Ramadan fast at the State House, Abuja.
He maintained that things are getting calmer and better as against concern over likely surge in food price on account of Ramadan fasting.
“Unusually, this is Ramadan period when prices and speculators dwell on commodities and food prices will go up.
“But we thank God that things are getting calmer and better. It means we work collectively hard to turn around.” He said.
The President recalled how he had charged his Cabinet at the first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting about the task ahead of the administration which he described as fetching water out of dry well.
While commending the cabinet for their hard work, Tinubu also lauded the effort of the leaders at the sub-national level.
He, however, urged them to do more for the people and consider themselves as great navigator that will bring this country back to the promise land.
“Those who are in the cabinet with me, remember what I said for the first Federal Executive Council, that here we are with an attempt to fetch water from a dry well.
“We are working hard to make sure that we have water to drink. We made sure that we can only spend the money but not the people.
“And you at the sub national level too, you are doing all you can to spend the money and not the people. I thank all of you as governors.
“The history will just be there for you to rehearse and remember.
“Look upon yourselves as a great navigator that will bring this country back to the promise land. It’s a great nation. Standing before you is a great honour as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“You can’t trade it for anything else and I want us to do what we are doing and do more for our people.” Tinubu said.
