The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab has hinted that the Ministry on Monday morning commenced the removal of illegal structures around the Jakande Estate of Lekki.
He gave the hint on his official X handle saying illegal structures and shanties around Jakande Estate and Maiyegun, Lekki will be evacuated.
Wahab held that the enforcement is aimed at reclaiming the coastal way alignment for the Lagos- Calabar Highway.
He wrote, “Lagos State Government this morning began the removal of all illegal structures and shanties built around Jakande Estate, and Maiyegun, Lekki.

Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olua had ordered the immediate demolition of illegal shops and market stalls in some flooded areas in the stateH
He issued a one-week quit notice to some affected property owners, assuring that residents would largely benefit from the government’s plan to regenerate the entire area.
Sanwo-Olu identified abuse of drainages, indiscriminate dumping of refuse and outright disregard for the environment as reasons for instructing the demolition of the shops and stalls mounted by residents.
