At least four people have been rescued from rubbles as three-storey building collapsed in Lagos.
The incident, as confirmed by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in a statement issued on its official X handle on Saturday, occurred around 8:30pm on Friday at Alagomeji, Yaba area of the state.
As against initial claims, NEMA disclosed that it had rescued four adult males in collaboration with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other responders.
It however maintained that the total number of casualties trapped in the rubble is yet to be ascertained as rescue operation is still ongoing.
The statement read; “A three-storey building under construction collapsed on Friday night, September 12, 2025, at 333 Borno Street, Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos State.
“The incident occurred at about 8:30 pm, leaving several persons trapped under the rubble.
“While eyewitness accounts vary, with some saying six people were trapped and others reporting five, emergency responders have so far rescued four adult males alive and taken them to hospital for treatment.
“Teams from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and other responders quickly mobilized to the scene and commenced search and rescue operations.
“As of press time, the exact number of persons still trapped remains unconfirmed, but efforts are ongoing to locate and evacuate survivors.
“Emergency officials have cordoned off the site to ensure safety and smooth rescue operations.
“The search and rescue operation is continuing into the night with responders assuring that no effort will be spared to save lives.”
Meanwhile, the agency in an update on the incident affirmed that the four rescued victims are stable condition while two others are reportedly trapped in the under the collapsed building.
