The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has announced plans to increase its security cooperation with Nigeria in the face growing terrorist activity in the northern region.
This was contained in an X post by the French President, Macron on Sunday.
According to him, France stands in solidarity with Nigeria and will work more closely with Nigerian authorities to address the security challenges.
He noted that the enhanced support comes at President Tinubu’s request and will include stronger collaboration with security agencies as well as assistance for communities affected by insurgency.
Macron also called on regional and international partners to step up their engagement, stressing that the current situation requires collective action.
“I spoke with President Tinubu of Nigeria, @officialABAT.
“I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges, particularly the terrorist threat in the North.
“At his request, we will strengthen our partnership with the authorities and our support for the affected populations. We call on all our partners to step up their engagement.
“No one can remain a spectator.” he wrote.
NPO Reports that in recent weeks, there have been reports of gunmen attacking schools and religious centres.
