A loaded fuel tanker conveying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has, on Sunday, spilled its content following a line accident in Kaduna state.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
According to the statement, the tanker fell at approximately 11:46 AM at Romi New Extension, near Command Junction.
The accident resulted in a significant fuel spill which posed an immediate risk to lives and property.
In swift intervention by the NEMA Northwest Zonal Office, Emergency Response Team was deployed to the scene and, in coordination with relevant stakeholders, mitigated the potential hazards.
NEMA diclosed that the incident was first reported by a member of the Kaduna State Disaster Management Platform (DMP), prompting a rapid mobilization of emergency responders.
While no casualty was recorded, a multi-agency response team was deployed to manage the situation effectively.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), in collaboration with, Kaduna State Traffic and Environmental Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Joint Task Force (JTF) reportedly handled the crowd and traffic control in order to prevent secondary incidents.
Fire suppression and cooling operations were conducted by the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (KADSEMA) firefighters and NEMA Fire Truck to prevent any ignition during the delicate fuel transfer process.
Also present at the scene were the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the National Blood Transfusion Service, who provided medical and humanitarian support.
NEMA confirmed that the emergency responders successfully transferred the PMS to another tanker without any reported casualties.
The operation,. according to the agency,.was a testament to effective coordination, teamwork, timely information dissemination, and continuous safety awareness efforts regarding tanker accidents.
Commending the stakeholders for their professionalism, dedication, and swift response, NEMA held that the outcome reinforced the importance of inter-agency collaboration and proactive emergency preparedness in ensuring public safety.
