The Nigerian Army has reacted over the re-emergence of notorious commander of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Gentle De Yahoo, months after the military’s announcement of his arrest.
NPO Reported that the Nigerian Army had in September 2025 confirmed the arrest of Gentle De Yahoo wose real name is Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta.
The notorious IPOB militia leader was reportedly arrested during a raid in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state.
However, a video of him which surfaced on Thursday refuted the military’s claim as he declared that he is alive.
As seen in the video shared on X, the IPOB commander reaffirmed his pledge to continue the fight for Biafra.
Reacting during a press briefing on Friday, a Nigerian Army official talked down the authenticity of the video which he claimed might be generated through Artificial Intelligence.
He however disclosed that necessary actions will be initiated to confirm his alleged return.
“What I can say is that in this current dispensation of AI, it is possible to create anything just to destabilise and cause panic within the society.
“Notwithstanding, as you said now, we will initiate necessary action with the relevant security agencies to confirm if it is true that he is back.
“And then necessary action will be taken to contain any individual or group that seeks to threaten our security and safety.” He said.
However, the said video, as seen by NPO Reports correspondent, is far from being generated by AI as Gentle De Yahoo could be seen dancing to an Igbo song with a walking stick.
In his address, he disclosed that the video was recorded on the 28th of January 2026.
