Gospel singer, Timileyin Ajayi on Monday said he was not guilty of the guilty of his girlfriend, Salome Adaidu.
Ajayi was arraigned before the Nasarawa State High Court of Justice in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, today by the Nigeria Police.
He was charged with a one count charge of Culpable Homicide Punishable with Death.
NPO Reports that Ajayi had been caught two weeks ago with the severed head believed to be that of his girlfriend, Salome.
Accosted near a church, he was later taken to his residence where the butchered remains of Salome was found.
The state Counsel, Stanley Ifeanyi, told the court that Ajayi killed Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps in the FCT.
Ifeanyi said that the offence violated section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, and punishable with death.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge
The presiding judge, Justice Simon Aboki, remanded Ajayi at the Lafia Custodial Centre, and adjourned the case to March 17, for a hearing.
He pledged to give the case an accelerated hearing because of its seriousness and sensitive nature.
Following his arrest, the 32-year-old admitted to the murder of Salome, a 24-year-old member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who served at Nicon Insurance in the Nation’s capital, Abuja, before her death.
NPO Reports that Ajayi had in an exclusive interview with Channels TV claimed to have killed Salome for cheating on him while stating that he had no regret for her murder.
He alleged to have caught her sex chatting with other guys which she hides from him most times.
“She was always cheating. She hides most of the things from me most times. I saw most of her chats with other guys on the phone.
“I don’t have any regret killing her because life is reciprocal, that is what I thought. If you must be with someone, you have to reciprocate with that person. You have to understand what that person is going through so that you can actually put yourself in the position that person is going through.
“That is why I didn’t have any regret because we are actually compatible.” He said.
On how he murdered Salome, the Kogi-born cryptocurrency trader recounted how he had invited her to his house where he challenged her of cheating.
“What happened on that day was very simple. I caught her cheating on me and I brought it to her awareness that she was cheating.
“She refused. She didn’t want to accept until I showed her the chat and what she did before she admitted and told me she was sorry, it won’t happen again.
“After that, I told her to go the bathroom. She went to the bathroom and started somethings. I couldn’t take it lightly. I had to go into the room and get some certain things. I took the knife from the rest room and went to her. I hold her neck and Didi what I had to do.
“When she died, nothing really happened. I only took some parts of the knife (gesticulating how he dismembered her) and that was it.” Timileyin said.
