A former Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Council, Mr. Segun Awolowo has died.
Awolowo was the son of late revered politician and former Premier of the defunct Western Region Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
As confirmed in a family statement issued on Thursday, the grandson of the former Western Region Chief died at the age of 62.
The family described him as “the world’s most phenomenal husband, father and grandfather — steady, wise, endlessly loving, and the constant anchor of our family.
“With extremely heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Olusegun Awolowo,” the statement read.
“A loyal servant to Nigeria, he dedicated his life to the service of his country with vision, integrity, passion, and unwavering commitment. He was a true family man, a great friend, a devoted servant of God, and a deeply admirable human being.
“We are shattered by this loss, but forever grateful for his life, his legacy, and the love he poured into all of us. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.” The statement read.
Born on September 27, 1963, Segun Awolowo came into the world two months after the tragic death of his father, Segun Awolowo Sr., who died in a car accident along the old Ibadan–Lagos road at age 25.
In July 2021, he was unanimously elected President of the National Trade Promotion Organizations, TPOs, representing ECOWASmember states, reflecting his influence and leadership in trade development across West Africa.
