Gunmen riding on motorcycles have killed a 17-year-old herder and 35 cows when they opened fire on their victim between Nafan Village Fan District and Doruwa Babuje in Ropp District of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
One other person was also inflicted with a machete cut and is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital in the area.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang while confirming the killing in a statement said he received with rude shock the brutal attack orchestrated by unknown persons in Barki Ladi LGA.
The Governor, in a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bare, condemned the acts of lawlessness in totality.
He directed security agencies to hunt and track down the perpetrators of the heinous crimes and ensure justice for the victims.
Mutfwang said the unholy act undermines his government’s effort to entrench harmonious living among all and sundry in the state.
Governor Mutfwang said his administration will no longer tolerate brutal killings of innocent citizens either in their farms or in any parts of the state while pursuing their legitimate means of livelihood.
The governor urged traditional, community and religious leaders as well as youths and women in the affected communities to collaborate with other stakeholders to commence dialogue and restore normalcy while criminal elements within the communities should be exposed to face the full wrath of the law.
