The heightened tension continued in River State Tuesday morning as many chairmen of the 18 local government areas of the state made attempts to force their ways into their offices.
Their offices lapsed on Monday and Governor Sim Fubara had directed that Heads of Administrations of the local council areas take over the affairs of the councils.
Most of the council chairmen are loyalists of former Governor and current Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.
The Chairman of Ahoada East, Ben Eke who was seen making his entry to the office, was prevented as he tried to force himself inside the council secretariat.
Eke was seen being beaten while gunshots were heard. Eke ran as the pro-Fubara supporters ran after him
At the Obio/Akpor Local Government secretariat, stern looking men said they had taken over and prevented the pro-Wike chairman from coming. Obio-Akpor is the local government of the Minister of FCT.
This is the situation in almost all the council secretariats.
NPO Reported earlier that Governor Sim Fubara had instructed Heads of Administrations of the councils to take over the affairs of their respective council areas in the absence of chairmen.
