Nigerian celebrity chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci is set to create a new Guinness World Record with an attempt to cook the largest pot of jollof rice.
This is coming two years after she broke the world record for the longest cooking marathon with 93 hours 11 minutes feat, beating the previous record holder, Chef Lata Tondon, who cooked for 87 hours 45 minutes in India.
Bacci’s feat was however short-lived as Irish chef, Alan Fisher, broke the record with a staggering 119 hours 57 minutes cooking marathon in November 2023.
The Nigerian chef is however set to create a new record today at the Eko Hotel and Suite where her giant Gino-branded pot currently stands.
A video shared on X showed the chef washing the pot as she embarked on her new feat which had since attracted several fans and celebrities.
The Eko Hotel Lagos venue of her history-making cooking is already parked with thousands of interested youths who besieged the place to catch fun.
Pastor Bolaji Idowu of the Global Lead Pastor of Harvesters International Christian Center Lekki led others in prayer for the commencement of the cooking feat.
Baci is to cook 250 bags of rice in a cookathon that was orginally slated to hold at Muri Okunola Park.
The venue was however changed due to the need for a larger stage to accommodate the huge fans who had shown interest in being present.
The real cooking started Friday afternoon with Baci and her mother pouring about 12 kegs of cooking oil into the giant cooking pot which was fabricated in Lagos.
The pot was fabricated in the Gbagada area of Lagos and was transported to the venue via a low bed truck with the Gino brand on it.
Gino is a brand of tomato paste used in Nigeria.
