A Nigerian journalist, Segun O’Law of Objectiv Media, has raised alarm over alleged threat to his life following a leaked video of Minister of Dave Umahi.
Segun urged the public to hold Umahi accountable if anything happens to him.
The journalist made this known during a Press Conference held on Thursday after receiving a threat message from the Minister over his leaked video where he claimed to have deliberately ordered the takeover of the WinHomes Real Estate properties for the controversial realignment of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Segun recounted how the Minister had in a WhatsApp text demanded publicy apology for the leaked video while issuing a note of warning to him.
“On the morning of Monday 8th March 2026, I received a WhatsApp message from a number not saved in my contact.
“The person later introduced himself as HMW, that is, Honourable Minister of Works. After I asked the messenger to identify himself, his message started with a link to a TikTok video which he asked me to go and watch.
“The video featured a content creator referencing another lawyer who claimed the first person to have gone to jail in Nigeria in this year 2026 was someone who shared a private conversation with a third party.
“The creator warned the viewers against sharing private conversations without consent.
“Immediately after sending the link, the sender wrote as follow; “You came to my office and secretly videod our conversation and shared. You have no right to do that with all respect I gave you.
“I thought that by now, you would have repented and publicly apologised to me.
“I still give you opportunity to do so on my terms, but if you don’t, then” Segun quoted the Minister to have said.
The journalist thereafter recounted how he had discreetly recorded Umahi during a meeting with representatives of WinHomes and protesters who stormed the Ministry of Works in agitation for the FG’s intrusion into the real estate company’s land.
The Minister was reported to have during the meeting declared himself a dangerous man, admitting that he deliberately ordered the takeover of the property as a personal vendetta against the real estate firm’s CEO, Stella Okengwu.
“Given the Minister’s history of controversial action, and seriousness of the message, I consider it necessary to put this out in the public for reasons of public knowledge and personal safety.
“I percieved that message as a threat to make me to bend, cow, withdraw and denounce the video in a bid to water down or cover the truth that is being exposed by the discreet video of him confessing to have corruptly used his office to achieve personal vendetta against the CEO of WinHomes Mrs. Stella Okengu for being vocal and to have challenged him over the controversial realignment of the coastal road which partly affected her estate site and her trenchant rejection for the poor valuation of the portion taken for coastal road construction.” Segun said.
He recounted how Umahi had during the August 2025 protest summoned representatives of the protesters to have a word with them at his office.
Alongside WinHomes Engineers, Segun was also selected as part of the delegates for the meeting where the Minister admitted orchestrating the takeover of the property in a bid to deal with Okengu for challenging him.
While he agreed taking some of the affected owners of the properties purchased through WinHomes to President Bola Tinubu, Umahi would however make a U-turn days after as he summoned the media for a press briefing where he threatened to arrest Okengu.
Segun disclosed reminding him of his agreement with the delegates.
The Minister, according to him denied making such promise.
This, the journalist claimed prompted his release of the video to the WinHomes CEO as evidence of the Minister’s agreement with the delegates during the meeting.
