The heavy traffic which left many commuters stranded along Lagos-Ogun borders for several hours on Tuesday evening has been attributed to multiple accidents which occurred earlier in the day.
The multiple accidents aggravated the gridlock as traffic congestion along several routes increased with several commuters returning home spending ample of time on the road.
First incident to be reported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, was a lone accident involving a 40ft containerized truck along the Kara Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
According to a traffic update earlier shared on its X handle LASTMA disclosed that the accident occurred around 12:55pm on Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, by the ENYO Filling Station, around the expansion joint.
Video attached to the post showed the containers obstructing a large portion of the road after falling off the vehicle which suffered brake failure.
Three casualties were recorded and conveyed to an emergency centre for medical attention with LASTMA officials cordoning the affected area.
Just as commuters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and inward Ikeja were left stranded in their vehicles, another congestion built up along the Lekki-Epe Expressway hours after a multiple accident.
Barely two hours after the Kara Bridge incident, LASTMA would confirm the other accident which occurred around 2:43pm.
According to the authority, the multiple road crash which involved three vehicles—a truck loaded with iron rods, a Toyota RAV4 Jeep, and a Toyota Hiace bus— occurred at Marwa along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, inward Lekki.
The truck reportedly suffered brake failure and lost control, causing the iron rods to fall onto the main carriageway and impeding traffic flow.
Fortunately, no casualty was recorded.
