Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, has said that he is still waiting for the right time to fully assess the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
George spoke with NPO Reports against the backdrop of the one year anniversary that Tinubu took over governance in Nigeria. Tinubu was sworn in on May 29, 2023 making it one year exactly that he assumed power. Saying he would like to assume that the first one year is for the President to learn some things about the presidency and the complexity that Nigeria represents.
George however said that the state of the economy, security and the attitude of those at the various departments of government has not shown that the present administration is getting it right. George who had vowed to go into exile should Tinubu become president, said Bode George.
most of the issues that Tinubu campaigned with are yet to reflect in his one year adding “I can’t see anything that has positively impacted on anybody and I mean, the people of this country. We are In a state of stupor, we are in a state of hunger and we are so equally angry.”
Complaining how costly things have become, George said “Things are getting very very bad” noting however that “we still have the time.” The PDP chieftain said it is tragic that the 6th largest producer of oil in the world is suffering the level of economic hardship that Nigerians are going through. “What happened to the wells? Have they run dry? So we don’t know where is what and who is where.”
Speaking on internal security, George said the population of the whole police cannot handle the levek insecurity in the country. “It makes a lot of sense to have state police, because they wil go to the grassroots. Every policing is communal, it’s localized. They speak the same language, they understand the culture in Nigeria. They know who is what, some people said they will use it for political, okay, use it for political reason. When the matter is over, then somebody will be punished for it. You can’t do evil and get away, no! We need it.”
