- Safiu Kehinde
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has hinted the possibility of running for Presidency, stressing that he has what it takes to occupy Nigeria’s highest office.
Makinde made the disclosure while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday evening.
When asked about the speculations on his likelihood to run for the 2027 Presidential election as his governorship tenure runs out, Makinde held that he has capacity to occupy the office of the President.
The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governor, however, maintained that Nigerians demand and his party’s decision will determine his ambition.
Makinde harped on the need to fix the PDP which had long be marred with internal crisis.
“I don’t have any doubt that I have the capacity to occupy the highest office in this land, and I have what it takes.
“But what I want to do right now, is it what Nigerans are asking for? Is it what my party say I should do? I don’t know. We still have a long time to go.
“Where we are right now is that we must fix our party. We must have a platform for you to even aspire to be anything.” Makinde said.
The Oyo governor, however, noted that he will be satisfied if his political journey ends after stepping down as governor.
He stressed that he has achieved more as a governor than his initial plan to be a Senator.
“And let me also state this, if my political journey ends right here, I am also very happy. When I joined politics in 2007, I wanted to go to the Senate.
“I wanted to be a Senator. But now, not only have I achieved more than that by being a governor of my state, but I have also cherished the opportunity that people gave to me to make my own little difference.” Makinde added.
