Following the assault of multiple crew members by a passenger identified as Ms. Comfort Emmanson, Ibom Air has imposed a travel restriction on her, noting that her actions posed serious threat to flight safety.
This was contained in a statement by the Management, Ibom Airlines, on Monday.
NPO Reports that the incident occured on its Uyo-Lagos flight on Sunday, August 10, 2025
In a now trending video, Ms. Emmanson was captured slapping airline officials and being forcibly dragged out of the aircraft by security personnel.
The ruckus began before take-off when the passenger refused to switch off her mobile phone despite repeated safety instructions from the Purser.
She only complied after the Pilot-in-Command intervened and a fellow passenger switched it off, sparking a verbal tirade.
Upon arrival in Lagos, Ibom Air said Ms. Emmanson waited until all passengers had disembarked before attacking the Purser, stepping on her, forcibly removing her wig and glasses, throwing them to the floor, and striking her with footwear.
She also slapped another crew member who tried to intervene and attempted to remove a fire extinguisher, risking potential damage to the aircraft.
The Pilot-in-Command alerted airport security, but video footage circulating online shows the Purser preventing the passenger from leaving until help arrived.
Ibom Air reported that Ms. Emmanson assaulted both Ibom Air and Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security personnel and slapped the airline’s ground supervisor before being restrained and taken into custody.
“Ibom Air reiterates its zero-tolerance policy towards any form of unruly or violent conduct that threatens the safety of passengers, crew, or equipment. Such behavior will be met with the strongest possible response, including legal action and permanent restriction from our services.
“We commend the bravery and professionalism of our crew in handling this situation under extremely challenging circumstances, as well as the swift support from airport security and the Nigeria Police.
“Safety remains our highest priority. We urge all passengers to comply with crew instructions at all times for the safety, security, and comfort of everyone on board.”
