Ile-Ife-born Deputy Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kayode Adereti, has criticised the infrastructural development stride of the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, as he claimed that his people don’t need the ongoing Lagere flyover bridge construction in Ife.
Adereti made this known while addressing newsmen earlier in the week.
As captured in a video posted on Facebook on Thursday, the deputy governorship candidate questioned Adeleke’s spending of the state’s fund as he alleged that the governor is building bridges at where they are not needed.
He also labelled the road projects done by Adeleke as cosmetic roads which he claimed to be poorly constructed.
“Where is the money going to? What has the money been used for? They are doing cosmetic roads, bridges where they are not needed, poorly done road that cannot even last for two years. ” Adereti said.
This however appeared to have attracted heavy backlash as a subsequent statement by the APC deputy governorship candidate clarified his claims.
According to reports, the APC chieftain’s media office held that he did not oppose development projects in the ancient community.
It maintained that Adereti had described the flyover bridge as a misplace priotity compared to Ile-Ife’s pressing infrastructural needs.
He was reported to have only questioned the relevance, timing, and impact of such a project on residents’ daily lives.
“Our attention has been drawn to recent commentaries attempting to misrepresent the position of our principal following his interview on the Lagere Flyover bridge project in Ile-Ife.
“For the avoidance of doubt, our principal’s position has been consistent, objective, and rooted in the genuine needs of the people.
“His remarks were made during a public engagement, in which he clearly stated that the Lagere flyover bridge was a misplaced priority compared to Ile-Ife’s pressing infrastructural needs.
“At no point did he oppose development. Rather, he questioned the relevance, timing, and impact of such a project on residents’ daily lives.
“It is important to state that this position was expressed well before the current stage of completion, as part of his responsibility to provide constructive criticism and policy direction,” the statement read.
