There was tension at the Imo Collation Centre early Sunday morning as the collation of results went underway with opposition parties kicked against the continuation of results announcement without a record of accreditations.
However, Prof Abayomi Fasina, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University in Oye, Ekiti, who is the Returning Officer, said he has no power to suspend the collation exercise.
“I am not the last authority on this matter and I have to pas on to someone else and I have recorded all you have said down and at that level, you can present your petition. I don’t have power to stop collation. By my letter of mandate, i don’t have power to stop collation. I want to advise, don’t impose your idea on every other person.
The agent of the Labour Party and others had insisted that the Returning Officer should suspend collation and call for records of accreditation claiming that results being presented by INEC officials from the local government showed that votes had exceeded number of accredited voters.
