Barely 71 Days to the 2023 General Elections,the Independent National Electoral Commission has released the number of attacks so far recorded on it’s facilities.
According to the data,the Commission has so far recorded fifty(50) attacks on its facilities across fifteen (15) states of the Federation in the last Four (4) years.
This was contained in a data released via its website on Friday.
According to the data tagged “ATTACKS ON INEC OFFICES” showed that in 2019, the commission recorded eight attacks; 2020, 22 attacks; 2021, 12 attacks and it has so far recorded eight attacks in 2022.
The attacks according to the commission were recorded in Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Ondo, Bayelsa, Anambra, Imo, Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Borno, and Taraba States.
In 2019, its facilities were attacked in Osun, Bayelsa, Imo, and Akwa-Ibom.
In 2020, its offices in Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Imo, Abia, Cross River, Anambra, Borno, and Taraba were affected.

In 2021, Kaduna, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Abia, and Akwa-Ibom States were also attacked.
In 2022; its facilities in Ogun, Osun, Imo,Enugu and Ebonyi states were attacked.
The analysis showed that Imo had the highest attacks on INEC facilities with eleven (11) incidents, followed by Osun, seven(7); Akwa-Ibom while and Enugu, had five(5) cases each.
Ebonyi,Cross River, and Abia recorded four(4) cases while Anambra, and Taraba had two(2) cases each.
Borno,Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa,Ondo, and Kaduna had one(1) case each.
The nature of the incidents include arson, Twenty (20); vandalisation, twenty-six (26); and arson and vandalisation, four(4).
The data further revealed that twenty (20) of the attacks were caused by unknown Gunmen and hoodlums; EndSARS protest trigged Eighteen(18) attacks; thuggery during elections, six(6); post-election violence, four(4); bandit attack, one(1); and Boko Haram attack, one(1).
